Concert raised £1,000 for RAFA

The concert at Nichol Hill Methodist church, Louth on Friday 1 December raised over £1,000 for RAFA, the Royal Air Forces Association, announced organiser Eric Pigdon at the end of a very successful and enjoyable evening.  The baritone section is seen below sporting the choir’s bright new uniform.

Baritones.JPGThe chapel was full for a varied programme that ended with great Christmas themes: the unruly “Carol Singers” were detained in a police cell; “The Boar’s Head Carol” told of feasting in English and Latin; and a beautiful sight was envisaged by the lovely male voice arrangement of “See Amid the Winter’s Snow”.

ElliesaxDec06_.JPGThe audience joined in to finish the concert with “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem” and a rousing rendition of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”.

Ellie Pike, winner of the 2005 East Lindsey Young Musicians competition, was the soloist.  She played three pieces on her saxaphone in the first half: “Dreams of You” by Dave McGarry, Sonata for alto sax and piano by Phil Woods; and Brazileira by Milhaud.  Ellie’s relaxed and expressive performance was brilliantly accompanied by her teacher, Andrew Amey.

In the second half, Ellie demonstrated her versatility by singing the beautiful, unaccompanied “The Singer” by Michael Head.
