Social Away Weekend – Skipton

Saturday 18th May

Skipton programe 20130001a lrA social weekend away, venturing into Yorkshire taking our partners and performing for The Rotary Club of Skipton at St Andrew’s Methodist Church. Most of us stayed overnight and others had in fact come up on the Friday. We stayed at a very nice B&B just outside of Skipton with a wonderful view of the town in the valley. The concert went well with a high percentage of the seats taken returning Rotary £1,000 for the good causes. Tony Neale, one of our top tenors, gave a solo performance at one of the intervals, our own Quadwrangle at the other. We informed Steeton MVC, out of courtesy that we were on ‘their patch’ and a number turned up to listen. Unprompted one of their members came up to me afterwards, very impressed with our performance, and said that if we ever came back they would have no problems in getting a full house. We gave Graham Burrell, our much loved musical director, a round of Happy Birthday prompted by our compere for the night, Nick Adams, who yet again had the audience in his grip laughing at his introductions to our pieces; he even introduced one of the Calendar Girls in the audience, with her clothes on! It was also nice to see Mark and Rona, the old young married couple, in the audience who had come across from Leeds to see us as we had performed at their wedding only two weeks ago. They had been unable to see us at the time as they were signing the register during our performance and wanted to see us live. We certainly enjoyed the concert and indulged in two encores – not too sure whether they asked for them- but they got them anyway! On the way back on Sunday, Roy & June Barber with Lesley and I, went to see East Riddlesden Hall near Keighley, very interesting and worth a visit. A good weekend. Now it is all steam ahead learning our Dutch for our joint concert with Albatros at St. James’s Church, Louth on the 22nd June.
