Step 4 of the Spring Roadmap

From 19 July 2021 (Step 4 of the Spring Roadmap 2021):

The Government has announced that from 19 July 2021 there will be no legal restrictions in place and that safety measures will become a matter of personal responsibility.

Please refer to Government guidance on events and attractions for recommended precautions, including six priority actions.

In addition, we recommend the following:

1. Risk assessment:
It is important to keep an up-to-date risk assessment in place as Covid-19 continues to represent a risk to health. Be prepared to amend your risk assessment as the situation evolves in line with any changes to legislation and guidance.

We recommend you continue to consider the following:
a) Ventilation – maintain good ventilation in your rehearsal or performance space
b) Self-isolation – remind members to self-isolate if they have symptoms or have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace. Note that the rules for self-isolation for double-vaccinated people change on 16 August 2021.
c) Congestion – avoid congestion in communal areas. For example, maintain a one-way system into and out of the venue, allow a maximum number of people to gather in areas such as toilets, corridors.
d) Face coverings – although these will no longer be mandatory, the Government recommends their use in crowded areas. When considering the use of face coverings, , you should take into account the number of members, the space available and the ability to ventilate the space.

2. Discussion with the membership of your group
Once you have circulated your risk assessment to your members, request feedback to ensure that individual members are comfortable with your health and safety mitigations. This will enable members to make additional suggestions and allow you to come to a consensus on Covid-19 safety measures which were mandatory but will become a matter of personal judgment from 19 July 2021. We recommend you ask for comments specifically regarding the use of face coverings, sanitisation, social distancing and overall numbers.

3. Where you hire an external venue
Remember to follow the policies and procedures of any venues you use for your group. Ask to be kept informed of any changes.

4. Use the NHS COVID Pass
Where you have a large membership, you may wish to consider using the NHS COVID pass.
